These Brakes Should Never Be Fitted: New Stock, Workshop Updates and a BMW M135 Test Drive
Our Blog

There’s never a quiet day at Redgate Lodge, Tyne and Wear’s busiest used car dealership, and this bank holiday week was no exception. From fresh vehicle arrivals and workshop repairs to body shop inspections and a thrilling BMW M135 test drive, the team had plenty happening across the dealership.
In this week’s behind-the-scenes update, we take a closer look at the day-to-day operation of a busy used car dealership and show what goes into preparing vehicles before they reach the forecourt.

Life at a Busy Used Car Dealership
With over 100 quality used cars on our Newcastle site, preparation and presentation are everything. The Valet team spent the morning ensuring vehicles were washed, refreshed and ready for customers arriving over the bank holiday weekend.
Keeping a large selection of used cars looking their best requires a coordinated effort from valeters, technicians, sales staff and body shop specialists. From hot hatches and performance cars to family SUVs and premium saloons, every vehicle receives careful attention before going on sale. Browse our fabulous stock here.

The Reality of Social Media for Car Dealers
During the day, there was also discussion about the impact of social media on modern car dealerships.
As well as YouTube, Redgate Lodge is present on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, and while social platforms create fantastic opportunities to connect with customers, they also bring challenges. Customer enquiries can sometimes get lost amongst advertising comments, and new ideas shared online can quickly be copied by competitors.
Despite occasional frustrations, social media remains an important part of this trusted North East dealership’s communication strategy, helping showcase new arrivals, customer stories and behind-the-scenes content.

Workshop Update: Major Engine Repair at our Newcastle Bosch Service Centre
One of the biggest jobs currently in the workshop involves a Jaguar that arrived with serious fuel system issues.
The vehicle reportedly stopped running shortly after being refuelled. Initial investigations suggest significant damage to the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors. As a result, Aston, one of our Master Technicians, is carrying out:
• Fuel system diagnostics
• Fuel tank flush
• High-pressure fuel pump replacement
• Injector inspection and replacement
• Timing and belt work
Large repair jobs like this highlight the complexity of modern performance vehicles and the expertise required to diagnose faults correctly.
If your car is in need of repairs or is due an MOT and Service, why not book it in with a reliable Service Centre like ours? Find out more here.

Brake Problem Diagnosis: Why Quality Parts Matter
The team also checked on a Volkswagen Golf suffering from a knocking noise from the front corner.
The issue was traced to brake pads that were loose within the carrier assembly. New replacement pads were ordered immediately to resolve the problem.
A key takeaway from the discussion was a simple principle many experienced technicians follow: If you buy cheap, you buy twice.
At Redgate Lodge’s trustworthy Bosch Service Centre, we use high-quality brake components, knowing they can prevent premature wear, noise and additional repair costs down the line.

New Car Arrivals on the Forecourt
Several exciting vehicles have recently arrived and joined the Redgate Lodge stock list. We now boast a strong selection of BMW Performance Models, including BMW M340i, BMW M135i, BMW 335i and BMW Z4.
We also have a host of Audi Hot Hatches, including S3, RS3 and S5, while our impressive range of stock also includes Hyundai N Performance Cars, with recent arrivals including the Hyundai i20 N and the Hyundai i30 N.
These cars offer excellent value for drivers seeking performance and everyday usability, while our forecourt also features a variety of premium SUVs, such as our Land Rover Defender 90s and Cupra Formentors.

Ford Performance Models Continue to Impress
At Redgate Lodge, we currently have an impressive selection of Ford performance models in stock.
One standout example features a Track Pack, Brembo brakes, a Panoramic roof, performance upgrades and a full service history.
The bright red finish drew particular attention and demonstrates why performance Fords continue to attract strong demand among enthusiasts.

New Arrival Spotlight: One-Owner Volkswagen Golf
Among the latest arrivals is a particularly impressive used Volkswagen Golf. Boasting features such as one owner from new, with approximately 11,000 miles on the clock, as well as upgraded alloy wheels and full dealer history, this is a rather special addition to our forecourt.
Low-mileage examples like this are increasingly difficult to find and remain highly sought after in the used car market.

Vehicle Preparation: The Difference Customers Notice
One of the most interesting parts of our day involves inspecting fresh part-exchange vehicles and identifying cosmetic work required before sale.
This takes place at our Bodyshop and Prep Centre, with many of our subscribers and customers not realising how much preparation happens behind the scenes.
As we check our new stock cars in, our experienced team noticed that several vehicles required work such as stone chip repairs, such as bonnet refinishes, front bumper resprays and stone chip removal.

Rather than simply touching in damaged areas, proper preparation often involves sanding back panels and refinishing them professionally.
Multiple vehicles were also scheduled for alloy wheel refurbishment, a process that includes:
1. Removing tyres
2. Stripping corrosion
3. Acid bath treatment
4. Powder coating
5. Diamond cutting
6. Clear coating
The result is a factory-fresh finish that dramatically improves vehicle appearance.

Meanwhile, a silver Audi required extensive work after lacquer peel was discovered on one side of the vehicle.
Because silver paint can be particularly difficult to blend correctly, the body shop plans to repaint the entire side to ensure a perfect colour match.

Final Thoughts
From major workshop repairs and body shop projects to exciting new arrivals and performance car test drives, this week showcased everything that happens behind the scenes at a busy used car dealership.
The standout moment may have been the BMW M135i test drive, but the real story is the amount of work that goes into preparing every vehicle before it reaches the forecourt.
