Teesside Car Dealers – Ukraine Aid

A Billingham man has told of the heartbreaking scenes after driving to Ukraine to help refugees.

Shaun Maddren, 41, travelled to Poland on Wednesday, March 23, with a double-decker bus full of supplies. The dad-of-five has told of his experiences at the refugee camps, saying it left him and his team with “lumps in their throat.”

Shaun travelled to Ukraine with a group of local car dealership businessmen and relied on the Teesside community to donate supplies and money to all the car garages. Shaun’s team managed to raise an impressive £20,000 to fund their trip and other supplies.

Shaun decided he wanted to help out after witnessing the conflict on holiday: “I was looking at the news and I was that shocked. I had tears in my eyes watching it – I felt like I had to do something.”

Shaun said his dad’s best friend sadly had to sell his 28-year-old double-decker bus following his cancer diagnosis, and he thought he could put it to good use. [The coach] has been his baby for 20 years.

“He got ill and had to sell it and I always told him I’d be interested in the bus. He spent his life savings on it. We filled this bus up with the charity of people from Teesside.”

The team headed into Ukraine to drop off aid for the people who couldn’t leave the county. Shaun said they were roughly 20km from Lviv: “We drove through into Ukraine with boxed items of everything you can think of.

As soon as Redgate Lodge were made aware of this unbelievable trip that Shaun was making, we didn’t hessite to get involved and donated into their fund raising page.

Redgate Lodge – George Routledge Trophy

In summer 2021 we were honoured to be approached by long time regular customer Mr Brown who is involved with Heaton Harriers Running Club, with a requested to donate a trophy after another long term sponsorship ended.

Mr Brown has been using Redgate Lodge since we first moved to our Shiremoor site and would regularly tell us of his running adventures and achievements. He also told us the outgoing Chairman of Heaton Harriers Running Club had been in the position for 34 years and was stepping down and we agreed it was fitting that the new Cross-country Championship Shield for The Harriers should be known as The Redgate Lodge – George Routledge Trophy.

We were delighted to be invited to present the shields to the club and then to last year’s winners (one for the winner of the men’s race, and one for the ladies winner) at their presentation evening last night at the Cochrane Park Sports Centre.

Congratulations to Ian Norman on winning the men’s race and Nina Cameron on taking victory in the ladies.

If anyone would like to join the club, please get in contact with the club Heaton Harriers Facebook page or we can pass your details over.

Giveaways and Charity

Cash For Kids Logo.1719923790 - Redgate Lodge

Following our 2 successful giveaways, we have this year decided to change Charites. After much deliberation, we decided to choose a charity with strong links to the North East – this led us to Cash For Kids

Cash for Kids lends a helping hand to disabled and disadvantaged children aged 0 to 18 years across 21 areas in the UK by means of our grant giving process. All the money raised on behalf of Cash for Kids stays in the area it was raised in providing a helping hand when and where it is needed most.

In 2016 Cash For Kids raised over £20 million and we are delighted to be able to help with fund raising this year.

2010 Citroen C1 Giveaway

In January 2015 we decided to give a car away, a 2010 Citroen C1, which we did live on our Facebook page when we reached 15,000 likes.

BMW Z4 Convertible Giveaway

After the Giveaway we felt like maybe we missed something? Maybe we could have used our exposure to benefit somebody else? We already had planned to give another car away but how could we make it bigger or better.

The decision was then made, everyone who wants to enter the draw donates £5 to charity, a charity we let our Facebook fans decide, which unanimously became Cancer Research UK. So we set another target, the simple thing was to add another 15,000 LIKES on so therefore becoming 30,000, as soon as we hit that number we give away another car. What was that car, well it was a BMW Z4 convertible!

Again the target was reached, 30,000 likes was in the bag, but more importantly you, our customers and followers along with some added support from other local garages and businesses managed to raise:

£7312.31

1985 Golf GTI Convertible Giveaway

Any normal Garage/Business would call it a day at that point. But not Redgate Lodge, we have just announced our 3rd official car giveaway, a 1985 classic Golf GTI convertible. Again we will be carrying on with cancer research only this time we hope to raise £15,000 and naturally we have set the likes target at 45,000.

£10,056
