Is your clutch slipping?

A slipping clutch could unfortunately fail at any moment, there’s no knowing exactly how long it’ll last before leaving you stranded.

Clutch slipping happens when the clutch fails to properly engage or disengage the transmission (gear box), causing the vehicle to slip out of gear or to struggle to stay in gear when accelerating…Not ideal!

Below are a few symptoms that could indicate that your clutch is on its way out:

• Grinding noises coming from the gear box
• Difficulty shifting gears when you engage or disengage the clutch
• Vehicle suddenly judders, jerks or stutters when moving forward or when shifting into gear
• Unusually high RPMs when accelerating as the gear slips out
• Large vibrations coming from the gear box (you will be able to feel this if your hand is on the gear stick)
• Strong, burning smell coming from the gear box
• The clutch pedal feels soft and spongy when pressed with force – there should be some resistance when you press down on the pedal
• Clutch pedal sticking or refusing to return to its original position (this will happen once you have started moving)
