Welcome back to another behind-the-scenes episode from Redgate Lodge Motor Group, the north east’s leading used car dealership. Here, the team dives into everything from body shop repairs and showroom refurbishments to customer parking chaos, award season in the motor trade, and a seriously impressive BMW M340i test drive.
If you love used cars, car dealership life, BMW performance cars, honest motor trade discussions, and day-in-the-life dealership content, this episode has a bit of everything. Watch it on YouTube here.
Inside the Redgate Lodge Bodyshop
The episode kicks off with a visit to the busy bodyshop department, where several customer cars and dealership stock vehicles are going through cosmetic repairs, paint correction, and accident damage repairs.
One standout project is a stunning BMW 4 Series fitted with an upgraded aftermarket front bumper. Unfortunately, the bumper had previously been painted badly and was covered in peeling paint, stone chips, and imperfections.
The team decided to completely strip the bumper back and repaint it properly to showroom standard before the car heads onto the forecourt.
Other jobs in the workshop included:
- Front bumper repairs and resprays
- Insurance accident repair work
- Customer vehicle paint correction
- Alloy wheel refurbishment
- Fiesta bonnet repairs after ladders fell onto the car
- BMW M Sport bumper replacements
- Courtesy car body repairs
Our Newcastle bodyshop ovens are consistently packed with vehicles “baking off nicely” as the technicians work through another busy week.
BMW M340i Test Drive: Is This the Ultimate Daily Performance Car?
One of the highlights of the episode was the new “10-Minute Test Drive” feature, starring an incredible BMW M340i finished in individual Dravit Grey.
This wasn’t your average 3 Series.
The M340i came loaded with over £11,000 worth of optional extras including:
- Heated steering wheel
- Heads-up display
- Harman Kardon sound system
- Glass sunroof
- Wireless charging
- Digital dashboard
- Lane assist
- Memory seats
- Shadowline Plus Pack
- Technology Pack
The standout feature was the stunning Dravit Grey paintwork, which changes colour depending on the light, shifting between grey, bronze, and even hints of green in the sunshine.
During the road test, Scott and Anthony particularly admired the car’s smooth automatic gearbox and its incredible acceleration, while its comfortable driving position was a highlight of the M340i’s premium interior quality. We all know that BMW is renowned for building quality cars, and this one is no exception, with its refined motorway driving functions.
The verdict? The BMW M340i delivered the perfect mix of luxury saloon comfort and serious performance car power.
For anyone searching for a used BMW M340i for sale in the UK, this episode perfectly explains why these cars remain one of the best performance daily drivers on the market.

Customer Scam Attempt During Car Handover
Sales executive Sam shared a story about a suspicious customer handover involving a cash payment discrepancy.
After carefully counting a cash deposit multiple times, the customer claimed there was “extra money” in the envelope. Following several recounts by multiple staff members, the dealership discovered the cash was actually short by £80.
While it may have been an honest mistake, the situation highlighted the importance of professionalism, attention to detail, and secure payment processes in the used car industry, all the things we have in abundance at our quality used car dealership in Newcastle.
It’s another example of the real-life challenges motor trade businesses face every day behind the scenes.
Electric Cars, Solar Panels & Free Charging
The team also discussed the growing benefits of electric vehicles at the dealership.
With solar panels installed on the roof, staff are now charging their electric cars completely free using solar energy generated on-site.
The charging app reportedly showed:
Operator cost: £0.00
As fuel prices continue to rise, dealership investment in EV charging infrastructure and renewable energy is becoming a major advantage for businesses in the automotive industry.
The Truth About Motor Trade Awards
The episode included an honest conversation about motor trade business awards and dealership recognition events.
The team discussed the difference between respected industry awards, judged by genuine automotive professionals, and generic “pay-to-enter” business awards that offer little credibility.
At Redgate Lodge, the dealership has won multiple respected industry awards over the years, including:
- UK Independent Dealer of the Year
- Website of the Year
- Customer Care Awards
- Innovation Awards
- Dealer Video of the Year
- People & Culture Awards
- Bosch Independent Garage Awards
The new awards cabinet proudly displayed the dealership’s growing collection of trophies during the showroom refurbishment tour.

Showroom Refurbishment Near Completion
The dealership’s showroom refurbishment project is finally nearing completion after running significantly over schedule and budget.
Upgrades include new showroom flooring, LED lighting installations, new sales desks and customer pods, modern office redesigns, updated customer waiting area, as well as new wall art and branding features
The refurbishment has transformed the showroom into a modern retail environment designed to improve the customer experience and showcase the dealership’s premium used car stock.
Customer Parking Problems at Busy Car Dealerships
One surprisingly relatable topic was dealership parking management.
The team explained how difficult it can be to balance customer parking with bookings at our Bosch Service Centre, not to mention MOT appointments, our fleet of courtesy cars, as well as the sale cars we have in stock and any deliveries that are taking place at our Newcastle dealership.
Like many busy UK dealerships, space management becomes a daily logistical challenge, especially when carrying hundreds of used cars in stock.
The staff discussed reorganising forecourt layouts, using overflow storage facilities, and improving customer drop-off systems to maximise efficiency.
Why Google Reviews Matter in the Motor Trade
In this latest episode, we also revealed a new review management platform designed to improve customer feedback collection across:
- Google Reviews
- Trustpilot
- Bosch Service Reviews
- Sales reviews
- Body shop reviews
QR codes placed on desks will allow customers to instantly leave feedback for individual team members, helping improve online reputation and local SEO performance.
For modern dealerships, strong Google reviews are now one of the biggest drivers of trust, visibility, and online enquiries.

Buying Cars Direct From Customers Saves Money
Another interesting discussion focused on sourcing used cars directly from customers instead of buying through large online car buying platforms like Motorway and Carwow.
By purchasing vehicles directly, dealerships can:
- Pay customers more money
- Avoid auction and platform fees
- Access higher-quality part exchanges
- Build stronger customer relationships
It’s a growing strategy many independent used car dealers are now prioritising.
