🚨 MERCEDES A35 AMG DISASTER | Hyundai Kona N & BMW X5M Competition Test Drives

Welcome back to another episode of Redgate Lodge | Dealership Diary, taking you behind the scenes of a busy independent used car dealership in the North East of England.

This week we’ve got everything from a Mercedes AMG A35 with a potentially serious engine problem to two very different performance cars out on our famous 10 Minute Test Drive.

🔧 MERCEDES A35 AMG – ENGINE TROUBLE

We start at our Bosch Car Service workshop, where a customer’s Mercedes-Benz A35 AMG has been booked in for diagnostics.

Unfortunately, initial investigations point towards a much bigger problem than the customer may have been expecting, and we discuss the diagnosis, what we’ve found and why the car could potentially need a replacement engine.

It’s a good example of why proper diagnostics are so important with modern performance cars and some of the challenges involved in running and repairing increasingly complicated vehicles.

🚗 HYUNDAI KONA 2.0 N – 10 MINUTE TEST DRIVE

Next, we get behind the wheel of the Hyundai Kona 2.0 T-GDi N.

The Kona N might look like a practical compact SUV, but underneath it’s a completely different animal. We take it out for our 10 Minute Test Drive and see just how entertaining Hyundai’s performance SUV really is.

Is the Kona N one of the most underrated performance cars on the used market?

🔥 BMW X5 M COMPETITION – 10 MINUTE TEST DRIVE

Then it’s time for something considerably more powerful – the BMW X5 M Competition.

With supercar levels of performance wrapped up in a luxury SUV, the X5 M Competition is an incredible piece of machinery. We take it onto the road and give you our thoughts from a used-car dealer’s perspective.

🔨 ARE PHYSICAL CAR AUCTIONS BECOMING A THING OF THE PAST?

We also talk about how the way we buy used cars is changing.

After years of physically attending motor auctions, I’m increasingly considering whether there’s any real need to be standing in an auction hall when so much stock can now be bought through online car auctions.

Is buying used cars online simply more efficient, or is there still an advantage to seeing and hearing a car go through the physical auction?

We also talk about what customers look for when buying a used car and have onscreen dodgy car salesman ruined the reputation for hard-working car dealers in the UK?
